This is a wonderfully simple way to begin a portrait and is the method Caravaggio used to start his paintings. It is also how Borders based artist Gill Walton starts her own portraits. The results are wonderfully atmospheric, tonal, monochrome paintings but this technique can also be used for 'under painting'. It will all become clear on the workshop.
It is an introduction to a reductive method of painting using water based oils and follows on from Gill's reductive drawing workshop last year at the Borders Art Fair, however Gill welcomes newcomers who didn't attend her last workshop.
You will be working from a model and will receive a lot of support. It is suitable for all levels.
All materials are provided, but you might want to bring an apron!
